Here’s a catch-up post on the Penn Yan Hunter we’re restoring. Penn Yan used western red cedar for ribs with predictable results: lots of broken ribs. We pulled two that were beyond hope but did backside repairs on all the others to retain the hull shape and patina of the old ribs. This was an easy decision as most of the planking that needed to come off was in need of replacement anyway. The badly decayed stem was an unexpected surprise.
